The Wilder Path
Last updated: 04 August 2026

I take this seriously, so this page is written to be read rather than skimmed past. If anything here is unclear, email me and I will explain it in more detail.

Who is responsible for your information

The Wilder Path is the practice name I work under. I am based in Norway.

Data controller: Linn Olsen Postal address: Postboks 17, 6249 Ørskog, Norway Email: hello@thewilderpath.org

I am the only person who handles your information. There is no team, no assistant, and no third party with access to my accounts.

What I collect, and why

If you download a Field Guide

What: Your email address and your first name.

Why: To send you the guide you asked for.

Legal basis: Your request. You asked for something, and I need an address to send it to.

I do not ask for anything else at this stage on purpose. No questions about your circumstances, anything personal, or what you are struggling with. That information is yours, and a marketing platform is not the place for it.

If you subscribe to the Trail Dispatch Newsletter

What: The same email address and first name.

Why: To send you occasional emails, never more than once a month.

Legal basis: Your consent, given by ticking a box that is never pre-ticked. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, and withdrawing it does not affect anything you have already received.

Subscribing to the Trail Dispatch is optional. You get the Field Guide free either way.

If you contact me through the website

What: Your name, email address, and whatever you choose to write.

Why: To reply to you.

Legal basis: Your request.

Enquiries that do not lead to any further contact are deleted after 3 months.

If you book a conversation or a session

What: Your name, email address, time zone, and any notes you add when booking. Booking is handled through Cal.eu.

Why: To schedule and hold the session.

Legal basis: Your request, and once you become a client, our agreement.

If you become a coaching client

What: Contact details, session notes, and any invoicing records.

Why: To deliver the coaching you have engaged me for, and to meet Norwegian bookkeeping requirements.

Legal basis: Our agreement, and legal obligation for financial records.

Coaching conversations frequently touch on health, relationships, work, and other personal matters. Under data protection law some of this counts as special category information and receives additional protection. In practice:

  • I keep session notes to a minimum, and only what is useful for our work together.

  • Session notes are stored in encrypted storage (Proton Drive), and are never held in any marketing or scheduling system.

  • Sessions are not recorded by default.

  • Confidentiality, and its limits, are set out in full in your coaching agreement. That document governs our working relationship, and this page does not replace it.

I am a coach, not a therapist or medical practitioner, and I do not keep clinical records.

Recording, and when I might ask

I am working toward credentialing with the International Coaching Federation. That process requires me to submit a recording of a real coaching session for assessment, and it involves mentor coaching in which my own practice is reviewed.

This means I will occasionally ask a client for permission to record a session. When I do:

  • I will ask you directly, in advance, for that specific session. Never as a blanket permission and never buried in an agreement you signed months earlier.

  • I will tell you exactly who will hear it and for what purpose.

  • Saying no changes nothing. You will not be charged differently, treated differently, or asked again about that session. It is a real choice, not a formality.

  • You can change your mind afterwards and ask me to delete the recording, up until the point it has been submitted for assessment. I will tell you when that point is.

  • Recordings are stored encrypted, kept only as long as the assessment requires, and deleted afterwards.

  • Recordings are never used for marketing, promotion, or teaching material of any kind.

If I have not asked you, I am not recording.

If you join the Fjord Reset or Waypoint waitlist

What: Email address, first name, and which offering interests you.

Why: To tell you when dates and applications open.

Legal basis: Your consent.

When you visit the website

The site runs on Squarespace, which collects basic technical information such as pages viewed, approximate location, browser type, and referring site. This is used to understand which pages are useful. It does not identify you personally to me.

Where the site uses cookies that are not strictly necessary, you will be asked first. You can refuse them, and the site will still work.

Services I use

I am a one-person practice, and I use established tools rather than building my own. Each of these processes information on my behalf:

Service & Purpose
Squarespace: Website hosting and basic analytics
MailerLite: Email list, Field Guide delivery, Trail Dispatch
Cal.com: Booking and scheduling
Whereby: Video sessions
Proton Mail: Email correspondence
Proton Drive: Encrypted storage of client notes and business documents

Some of these are based outside Norway and the EEA, primarily in the United States. Where that is the case, transfers rely on the safeguards those providers have in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses. Each publishes its own privacy documentation, which you are welcome to read.

I do not use advertising platforms, retargeting pixels, or tracking that follows you to other websites.

What I will never do

  • I will not sell your information. Not to anyone, not ever, at any price.

  • I will not rent, share, or trade your information.

  • I will not add you to a mailing list because you booked a call or sent an enquiry.

  • I will not use anything you tell me in a session as marketing material, including anonymised or composite examples, without asking you first and getting a clear yes.

How long I keep things

Information Kept for
Field Guide and newsletter subscribers: Until you unsubscribe. I also review the list periodically and remove addresses that have not opened or clicked anything in about two years
Enquiries with no follow-up: 6 months
Booking records: 12 months after the session
Client session notes: 18 months after the engagement ends
Invoices and accounting records: At least five years, as Norwegian bookkeeping rules require

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to:

  • Access what I hold about you

  • Correct anything inaccurate

  • Delete your information, subject to records I am legally required to keep

  • Restrict or object to how I use it

  • Receive a copy in a portable format

  • Withdraw consent at any time, for anything based on consent

To exercise any of these, email me at hello@thewilderpath.org. I will respond within 30 days, and usually much sooner. You do not need to give a reason and I will not ask for one.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet, at datatilsynet.no. You can do this whether or not you have raised it with me first, though I would rather have the chance to fix it.

Security

Accounts are protected with strong unique passwords and two-factor authentication. Email correspondence runs through Proton Mail, which is encrypted. Client notes are stored in Proton Drive, which is end-to-end encrypted, meaning the provider cannot read the contents. Notes are kept deliberately brief and identified by a client reference rather than a full name.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever occurred that put your rights at risk, I would notify Datatilsynet within 72 hours and tell you directly.

Children

This practice is for adults. I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that meaningfully affects you, I will say so in the Trail Dispatch rather than quietly updating this page and hoping nobody notices. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
